I have been trying to quit smoking. I was an extreme heavy user. I quit on Jan15, 2008 but have smoked a little a couple of weeks ago. I have only gone a couple of weeks and then smoked a little and then went a couple of more weeks and so on. I bought some home test kits. And the negative test line is very faint, on some days towards the middle of the day after dirnking coffee and water, the negative line comes up a little darker. But not compeltely dark. What does that mean? I would expect it to be getting darker everyday, not lighter on some days and darker on others. Does that mean I will test positive. Because my body is still obviously releasing it into my urine, but how do I know I am safely below the 50 I need to pass? I am skinny, but have a high percentage of body fat for my weight, so I have been excersicing, hoping that will help release it faster. I just am trying to rely on clean urine, my own, and do it the right way, but I need to make sure that I am not going up, because I am not smoking anymore, but not sure why the line is still so faint. So does even a faint line in the negatie region of the strip mean I am under 50? Or am I almost there and should wait another week to clean out even more? I don't want the employers getting suspicious that i haven't gone in yet, but I have until March14th do go in because I don't start work until March 17th. Today is March 3. Any help would be great, because I am trying to do it the right way. And I will never go back to depending on it or doing it daily. I just don't want to lose this job, because I am cleaning out, just not sure if I am there yet or not. I am just worried about the faintness of the negative line, I want it to come up darker, and am not sure what to do.

If you quit on January 15, and it's not March 3, you've already had a good amount of time to detox. By the test date, it will be more than 60 days of non-smoking (not counting the light smoking you did a few weeks after quitting).

Might be a good idea to try the dilution method and run a test again. You'll be able to try the dilution method out and then see the results before taking the actual test.
